There are various ways to redirect a domain address to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain and you have created a website using some online service which supplies you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve as a result is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned Internet site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you cannot have both a CNAME record directing to one provider and working e-mail address with another one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently further configuration may be required with the other company.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you only a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted within your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which is CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. In case you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial that you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks within your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it requires only a few mouse clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed through our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel where you will find a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted inside the account. To set up a CNAME record, you will only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), enter where the latter is going to be forwarded to and save the change. The new record will be active almost immediately in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Modifying or deleting an existing CNAME record in the account is just as easy and takes a click. If you experience any issues, you can go through our comprehensive help article, see the short video on the subject that we have added in the CP, or you can just contact us for assistance.
